Which rug does my horse need?

Certain circumstances mean that it can be good for your horse to have a rug, both indoors and outdoors.

There are different rugs for different occasions. A rug can protect, provide warmth or help your horse dry more quickly. Depending on external factors, rugs with different functions are sometimes needed.

Regardless of which rug is needed, it is important that the rug you put on your horse has a good fit, is durable and of course fulfills its function.

A stable rug should warm and protect just like a turnout rug. But the turnout rug must also withstand various forms of precipitation, wind and free activity. This requires a rug that both repels moisture and can breathe.

Other circumstances that have an effect are if, for example, you have clipped your horse. A clipped horse normally needs a thicker rug than an unclipped horse. Based on this, you also need to consider what type of stable the horse is in. The temperature varies between cold and insulated stables.

With us, you can always ask all possible and impossible questions and we will try to guide you in the best way. Here you will find a general guide for both measurements and thickness of rugs.

TEMPERATURE GUIDE

Here you will find a guide to which thickness may be suitable depending on the temperature. Be sure to distinguish between a horse that is clipped and one that is unclipped.
